Please tell us something about yourself and your family.

My name is Zheyu Song and I am the only child of my parents. I am currently living abroad and my parents are enjoying their life back in my hometown, Huadian (China) where I was born.

Is the course you have enrolled for at Athena helping you to realise your career goals?

So far, yes. It has provided some great insights into international marketing management and I would like to conduct further research especially in the area of consumer behavior.

What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?

I believe my next module would be Human Resource Management. I have been thinking about my next career steps including building strong business connections in a professional way and I would also love to enter academic research in  future, if possible.

Describe one thing that makes you feel a sense of accomplishment. Explain why.

I feel a sense of accomplishment when I get all my daily tasks done before going to bed at night. That makes me feel like I have had a productive day and  that offers me great motivation to move forward with whatever I should do the next day.

What helps you to bounce back from setbacks?

Self confidence and family/friend support are the primary motivators which help me stick to my plan no matter how many and how severe the  setbacks I encounter.

What’s the best book you’ve ever read? Why did you like it?

I recently read the book “How You Say It: Why You Talk the Way You Do—And What It Says About You” by Katherine D. Kinzler. It provided a groundbreaking examination on how speeches may affect us based on our linguistic differences. It was such an interesting book to read and I truly enjoyed those awesome insights.

If you could live anywhere, where would you live? Why?

That would be my home country, China because I love my country and it could possibly provide everything I want in life.

Who is someone you consider a hero in your life? Why?

I think that person would be my mother. I truly admire my mother, who has made enormous sacrifices for the family and always places other people’s needs over hers. She is such an incredible and caring person.
