Tell us about yourself, your family and your interests.

I am Emmanuel Amara Vandi Fomba from Sierra Leone. My official language is English and Creole and Mende are my native languages. I am married with four children and I am career minded, hardworking and honest and able to
interact with people from various backgrounds.

The imbalance of the global economy is now being felt. First of all, I want to thank those businesses who have retained their staff and have made sure that they have income and job security. But there are many businesses who have simply taken advantage of this situation to lay off staff. The impact of the challenges brought about by the current global crisis on my work is enormous. Operations have totally changed, production levels have reduced drastically, profits are low, many people are laid off and some of our business centres have closed due to inaccessibility to communities caused by continuous lockdowns and national health restrictions. However, there are plans to restructure our business as soon as the COVID-19 crisis mitigates. This will be done by taking onboard our laid off staff or recruiting new ones, requesting for more funds and restructuring logistics to enhance production levels.

How have the current global challenges affected your work/industry and what precautions/corrective measures have you taken?

How do you think digitization is going to influence your work/industry?

My organization will change a lot as technologies are continuously adopted by employees and integrated into processes. It will help define employee clusters within my organization based on the activities they perform – for example, data processing will race the relevant technologies back to these employee clusters and eventually determine their impact. It will, at the same time, empower employees to help my industry stay ahead of the curve in the digital age. I believe lifelong learning concepts need to be a priority on every business leader’s agenda. It will help in the exploration of new evolving tasks and skills, and develop concepts on how to hire the right experts from the market and how to accelerate, e.g. capabilities of program bots and run bot farms. I am certain that the combination of an adequate training concept, the right enablement, and early strategic sourcing will help everyone, viz. Artificial Intelligence technology and humans complementing each other’s work in the most effective way. This requires encouraging your employees to stay curious and eliminating any negative conceptions
they may have by trusting them and giving them reasons to trust you.

Yes, it is very important to have a sustainable business strategy. I have adopted initiatives to increase the funding support of the company, mobilizing more community support, developing an effective supply chain management system and introducing Artificial Intelligence system among others.

What are your future plans relating to your career/business?

Do you have any message for young people who are at the beginning of their career?

The best career or job is the one in which you’re using the skills you enjoy.
But, not every job needs to address all of your passions. Use every job as an opportunity to learn something new and keep an open mind; you may find that you really enjoy something
you never imagined would appeal to you.
